Situated on the banks of Richelieu River near Lake Champlain, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, or simply called SJR, is a city which can be found on the eastern part of Monteregie in Quebec and is located around 50 kms away from Montreal. In 1836, the first British North American railway line connected SJR with La Prairie thus putting the name of the city in the country's history of transportation.
Thousands of people visit the city every August to witness Canada's largest hot air balloon festival. The “Festival International des Montgolfires", or more popularly known as the International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, is held at Saint-Jean Airport. Witness more than a hundred hot air balloons drifting in the sky.
Another popular tourist attraction in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu is the Carrefour Richelieu. The shopping mall has more than 115 stores making it a haven for shopaholics. Having a car rental would make your shopping experience more pleasant because you can leave your shopping bags in the vehicle while you go grab something to eat or make a stopover to another destination.
