Situated on the banks of Saint-Maurice River in Quebec, Shawinigan is the seat of Saint-Maurice judicial district. The territory was called Shawinigan Falls before 1958, but they later on dropped the Falls in the name. It also received numerous spellings through years – from Chaouinigane and Chawinigame to Assaouinigane and Shawenigane.
Most of the old streets in Shawinigan are called in numbers just like those in Manhattan and there's an area there called Avenue Broadway which was named after New York's famous thoroughfare. There are a lot of interesting places and happenings in the city that are worth checking out which includes the Trou du Diable or also known as the Devil's Hole. According to legendary tales, this mysterious place can be found in the river and anyone who falls into the swirl won't get rescued because it has no bottom.
