Fort McMurray is an urban community of Wood Buffalo, Northern Alberta, Canada. The motto of the city is "We Have The Energy". The first European explorer that reached the area of Fort McMurray, in 1778, was Peter Pond. He came in search of furs, because the European loved them. He was followed by Alexander MacKenzie, in 1790, who was the first to describe the oil sands of Fort McMurray.
Only 80 years later, the settlement of Fort McMurray was founded. In 1947, it was incorporated as a village and one year later as a city. Although in present Fort McMurray is not a city anymore, the locals still consider it one. It has 61,000 residents and an area of 60 square kilometers. Visit it and you will enjoy a beautiful time in it.
